PATROL DIVISION |
Consists of uniform Police Officers who patrol subdivisions and businesses in modern, well-equipped automobiles. The Patrol Division's average response time is less than three minutes.
DETECTIVE DIVISION Is in charge of investigating all crimes and pursuing wanted criminals. The Detectives Lieutenant, Sergeant and experienced Detectives are well trained in all aspects of scientific crime investigation.
JUVENILE DIVISION Has responsibility for all crimes involving persons under the age of 17. The Juvenile Division distributes bicycle, pedestrian and personal safety lectures and pamphlets to all school children in Slidell (kindergarten through 12th grade). Drug and alcohol abuse pamphlets (for children and their parents) are made available to all schools. A Junior Police Program (ages 12 through 19) allows young people to assist regular police and to learn about the criminal justice system.
TRAFFIC DIVISION Uses marked cars, unmarked cars and motorcycles to provide traffic control and enforcement.
WARRANTS & FUGITIVE DIVISION Investigates forged and worthless checks. This Division also provides seminars and instruction for local businesses on how to prevent these crimes.
COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION Provides the vital link between the citizen who calls for police assistance and the officer who is dispatched to handle the call.
RECORDS DIVISION Maintains the security and integrity of all criminal records, in accordance with State and Federal laws. A state-of-the-art microfilm system ensures efficient records filing and retrieval. |

PROPERTY TAXES |
| Land and residential property is assessed at 10 percent of value. The Homestead Exemption Act in Louisiana allows the homeowner an exemption from parish taxes of $75,000.00 of the assessed value of his home. |

The City of Slidell sales tax is 8.75%, which is comprised of:

Residents are required to obtain a Louisiana Drivers License by passing both a written and eyesight test within 30 days of establishing residency in the state. Proof of identification is required.
New residents must register and obtain a Louisiana license plate from the Department of Public Safety for their vehicles within 30 days of establishing residency in the state. Annual motor vehicle safety inspections are also required. Referred to as "brake tags," new residents must obtain one upon the issuance of automobile registration and the issuance of a Louisiana license plate. |

VOTING |

The Slidell Office of Voter's Registration is open to the public on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed from 12 to 1 p.m.
In St. Tammany, voting is done according to districts, wards and precincts based upon parish residency. There is a 24-day registration period required before voting in general or special elections. To register, newcomers must show U.S. citizenship or naturalization papers or a current U.S. passport, must be a resident of Louisiana and must show proof of local residency and of being 18 years of age. |
